Social Media Marketing News You Can Use – Our Weekly Social Media Update

We’re back with your latest social media news and notes from the world of social networks.  Keeping up to date with everything going on in the world of social marketing can be tiresome.  That’s why we’re here to deliver you the social media marketing news you can use.

Hashtag Fail?

Are Facebook hashtags turning out to be a failure for the social network and businesses using hashtags in their social media strategy?  The news coming from Edgerank Checker’s blog shares some insight on this subject.  The insights from their data are quite interesting, but we’re willing to bet Facebook still has a few tricks up its sleeve when it comes to hashtags.

Plus or Minus

Does your business use Google+ as part of its social marketing strategy?  Do you also use the social scheduling tool Buffer to help ease your time commitment to your social networks?  Well, you’ll be happy to know that you can now keep your Google+ for business updates fresh with the help of Buffer.

Under the Radar

Foursquare may not be as massive as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or other social networks, but the location-based social marketing app continues to upgrade its features.  Foursquare recently began adding more useful details to places (i.e – free wi-fi, outdoor seating, accepts credit cards, etc.).  Android users are also going to soon see a new feature that suggests locations based on the GPS location of your phone without ever having to open the Foursquare app.

Connect the Tweets

Have you taken note of the new Twitter conversations feature?  The social network’s latest feature connects tweets with a blue line to help users follow conversations more easily.  As you can guess, there was much backlash with the announcement and update.

Relaxing the Rules

If you haven’t heard that Facebook now allows promotions in your company page timeline, then you must be living under a rock.  While it is true that you no longer have to use a third-party app to run Facebook contests, it is not true that the social network wiped the rulebook clean.  Before you start adding more promotions in your fans’ news feeds, make sure you understand exactly what is now allowed and not allowed when it comes to Facebook for business contests.

Seeing Red

Have you updated your YouTube mobile app lately?  Along with a few new features, you surely could not have missed the updated logo and app icon?  The bright-red, simplified logo is the first change the social media video giant has made to its traditional YouTube logo that we can remember.  Wonder if they will phase out the old look all together?
